flipping through today's Straits Times, i saw Dr Goh Keng Swee's grandson's eulogy. I didnt think much of it at first as I gobble my food. i remember saying to myself that Ken-Yi was a very interesting name. and then it clicked. i saw that name before! in fact, i know that name. it was my ex-student's dad! Ethan Goh's dad is Dr Goh's grandson. I taught Dr Goh's great grandson, golf!
i started reminiscing the good old times. he was a sunday kid but towards the end of my working stint at KG, his time slot was the mondays, 5pm. he would come early, carrying his golf bag. it was always his grandmother who sent him on mondays. come to think of it, i actually remember his grandmothers. and on sundays his other grandmother would send him. on saturdays he would have sleepovers at his dad's parents' side and the grandmother would kiss him goodbye and thank him for spending the night over at their place, when sending him to golf. i remembered she dressed and spoke well.
on mondays, his mum's parents would take care of him after school. they were more reserved. Ethan was very smart and polite. he was very competitive yet does not show off. he loved talking about his younger brothers.
its amazing isnt it? how i was teaching someone who was related to one of Singapore's founding fathers.
