Part 1
so i went to Melaka. the most reluctant trip since a long time. (first reluctant trip was to Mersing when i was in poly. i ended up having fun with my cousins at the beach and also the bbq later that night. i rmb late cik su was still with us.)
few months back, Wak Ahmad told the adults of his intention of organising a kenduri arwah at his place. now, we as a family sure dont mind big gatherings. the issue is, it's being held at his place at melaka. uhuh, melaka, malaysia. a good 4 hours drive away. make it 5 hours because his place is at tanah masjid.
prior to the trip, i applied for leave, last minute. i did not help in booking for the hotel rooms. i did not look at the maps. it was my first time applying leave and i had no idea how to. yes, seriously.. that's another story for another time, or not. next, because of impending matters of the heart.. i did not want to leave singapore.
the night before, i was very moody. i guess shida could feel it. it was that obvious. after hours of mulling around the house and snapping at everyone and everything, i finally packed.
got up early, headed to golden mile. we were going to take a first class massage coach. i told myself i had no business being all pissy about things i could not control. like a breath of fresh air, i was my chirpy self again. talking to ibu like usual. the journey was smooth and very comfortable. we reached Melaka Sentral after about 4 hours. before lunch, we went around to book bus tickets back (literally, because the bus ticket boots were arranged circularly). miraculously most of the tickets back to Singapore were sold out. in the end we got tickets back for a noon ride back.
Aloysius said that i had to try their chicken rice balls. despite ayah wanting to eat briyani, i insisted on finding those balls. ibu was fascinated while ayah and aqilah were not impressed. they ordered the usual chicken rice. frankly it was nothing fantastic. i was so hungry i gobbled the balls down and i did not savour it. window shopped while waiting for the uncle to pick us up. after what it seemed like forever, we spotted a familiar Singapore registered car.
i really did not know what to expect and i was pleasantly surprised. it was a quaint neighbourhood, looked new yet, like most things in Malaysia, it had that old-fashion feel. his was a corner unit, a 2 storeys terraced house. met my cousin and the other older relatives. the house was furnised quite well, once again, something i did not expect. settled down to a glass of isotonic drink and fried nuggets.
after the prayers and scrumptious dinner, it was bed time. since there were many guests and not too many rooms, me, aqilah and the men had to sleep on the ground floor. me being the ever understanding person, let my father and sister sleep under the fan. i was sweating and i did not sleep too well.
got up real early and took a stroll outside. walked with Nyai a little, then with my dad and uncle. took pictures of the area and the vintage cars. there were only 2 actually. one was a Toyota and the other was an an abandoned British Leyland. went back in, and chat with Wak Ahmad. he told me of his ideals and how much he spent on the house and the car.
