i was watching the history of singapore on central just now. to my understanding frm d documentary, lky or PAP wanted to merge wif then malaya for political, economical stability. d den malaya ruler was reluctant and so was dis particular lim guy (he n lky actually has similar visions on s'pore independence but he wanted to take on more of an comunist approach). but. PAP managed to change the tengku's mind and malaysia was formed (malaya combining with singapore). that was in 1963. for the next 2 yrs, dere were unrests. specially between the malays and chinese.

there was dis incident that probably escalated the tengku's decision to separate in 1965. which was where the religious procession othman wok was having. in d documentary, mr othman said that while having the religious procession, a grp of malays attacked chinese onlookers. n d lim guy supported dis move.

and on this part, ayah n nyai butted in. saying he (othman wok) twisted the story. saying that the chinese started the attack first. n i got irritated. which was d truth?

thats one of the main reasons why ive never enjoyed history in school. how much truth was dere in our texbooks? i wonder how its like in japan. wats in their history textbooks?


ANYWAY.
before that i was watching an s-league match on ch5. it was SAF FC vs HOME UTD. usually i wun stay on to watch cos its not as entertaining as an EPL match. the reason i watched was my former classmate was playing. he was the right wing for home utd. the last i knew, he was playing for young lions. d commentators were saying that it was a weird position for him to play cos he usually was a full back. d game ended in a draw.

yesterday. i rented a SHAH RUKH KHAN movie. CHAK DE. its d greatest hindi movie of 2007. (its d ONLY hindi i watched dis yr, actually. HAHA.) its abt a disgraced indian hockey captain (played by known other den mr khan) who came bck to d sports scence to coach 16 girls to the womens hockey championships. if u like movies like goal, gridiron gang, that duck movie (d one where dey play ice hockey).. u noe.. where no one believes that dey can do it, but you noe dey will emerge as champions in d end. i highly recommend it.
d storyline is quite predictable. but, u hv to watch it for d acting by the cast. the 16 girls came frm ALL OVER india. usually in hindi movies u will only get to see the punjab and d usual fair skinned indians.. but in dis movie, u actually get to see those indians who stayed up north close to china (n dey looked CHINESE but speak hindi!) and another girl who was living in d JUNGLES of india. bottomline: GO RENT/BUY IT!
